ETB Controller™ Installation Instructions: Section 3 - Digiware Metering & CT's (Socomec Products)
3.0 Digiware Metering Installation Introduction
Socomec's Control Cabinet (C-Cab) comes pre wired with all the necessary hardware required to communicate with the site. Depending on the site configuration, there are multiple methods of installation utilizing different pieces of Digiware (Socomec) equipment. Energy Toolbase currently uses the following equipment on projects:
Installers are responsible for procuring properly rated enclosures and appropriate DIN rail mounts for the metering hardware. Please refer to the below links for additional resources on Digiware Manuals.
- I-35 - Current Module
- U-30 - Voltage Module
- C-31 - Control & Power Supply Interface
- B-30 - Integrated I-35, U-30, & C-31 (utilized for runs longer than 100m)
- M-70 - Gateway
3.1 Basic Set Up
There are two possible voltage configurations - 480V and 208V. For the basic set up, the following is true:
- All site voltages are same as the ESS (480V)
- Total length of metering daisy chain is under 100m
- Only two I-35s and associated CTs are required (3 CTs per I-35) for this set up
3.2 Site Variations
There are two possible variations that require additional equipment:
1) Site voltage is not 480V
2) Total length of metering daisy chain is greater than 100m (~330 feet)
In either or both cases, a C-31 (requires 24V power source) and a U-30 are required to augment the I-35 at that metering location (PV, Mains, or other accessory loads). When using a C-31 you can run RS-485 a max length of 500m (~1800ft). All connections are made on the face of the C-Cab.
3.3 Meter Installation (480V Systems)
Two I-35 modules are required to measure the PV and the Utility feed coming in. The utility meter measurement point should be on the line side of the switchgear to ensure that all power coming into the site is measured properly. The PV meter measurement point should be on the line side of the aggregated PV to account for all PV production. The 2 meters should be daisy chained together with a CAT-5/6 cable and also connected to the I-35 module built into the Socomec C-Cab. Please refer to ETB Socomec Drawings for more detail.
3.4 Meter Installation (208V Systems)
For 208V switchgear systems, a B-30 will be used to measure the utility feed coming into the site and should be connected to the M-70 located inside the Socomec C-Cab. An I-35 module will be used to measure the aggregated PV, similar to the 480V systems. Please refer to ETB Socomec Drawings for more detail.
3.5 Meter Commissioning (All Systems)
When it's possible to power on Digiware metering devices, it is the customers responsibility to do the basic setup of all Digiware devices. Please review the commissioning documentation linked below for in depth instructions.
