ETB Controller™ Installation Instructions: Section 2 - BYD CHESS w/ ETB Controller™
2.0 ETB Controller™ kit of parts
Specific to the BYD BESS this EMS will be integrated with, you should have received the following parts directly from Energy Toolbase Software, Inc.
Note:
Installers need to supply shielded communications cabling, additional shielded-twisted CT extension cabling (when necessary), NEMA 4 rated conduit entry hubs, and some mounting bolts or screws.
2.1 Mounting ETB Controller™ Control Center
The ETB Controller™ Control Center is built in a NEMA 4 rated metal enclosure that can be mounted inside of an electrical room or in an exterior location. To maintain outdoor rating all wiring connections must be made on the bottom of the enclosure. To maintain UL listing all low voltage wiring must be on the latch side of the box and all high voltage on the hinge side. The enclosure comes with mounting clips for easy installation on an wall or rack. While the enclosure is NEMA 4 rated, it is always best practice to avoid mounting the unit in direct sunlight to help prevent undue damage and accelerated aging of the system.
Figure 1 shows the dimensions of the enclosure along with the details of the mounting brackets provided. The enclosure weighs 97 lbs. and should be mounted with proper wall anchors or racking components rated for the weight.
2.2 Power Source
The ETB Controller™ Control Center is designed to accept 480V power from a local circuit with a maximum draw of 100W. This power source will provide the reference voltage required by the power meter which is pre-wired inside of the control center. A transformer is also pre-wired inside the enclosure that will provide the 24V source for the PC, network switch, and other components, all backed by an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS).
2.3 Local device networking connections
An ethernet switch is provided inside of the control center where the EMS, BESS, and eGauge meter will all interconnect to the local device network. The enclosure comes pre-wired with the eGauge meter and EMS PC connected to this switch via CAT-6. If a site requires multiple eGauge meters, installers must run CAT-6 cable from the eGauge device port to the device network switch provided.
For the BESS communications, an additional CAT-6 cable must be installed from the BYD junction box mounted on the side of the BESS unit to the device network switch. (please refer to ETB Controller_BYD Wiring Diagram and Schematic_08072024 for details).
An internet connection shall be provided by the customer via CAT-5/6 cable from the site networking device to port LAN 1 on the Karbon PC inside the control center. (please refer to ETB Controller_BYD Wiring Diagram and Schematic_08072024 for details).
Note:
1) Additional meters for circumstances like difficult cabling runs (+300ft.) can be supported by the EMS. Please consult Energy Toolbase Inc. for further instruction when installing
