ETB Controller™ Installation Instructions: Section 2 - Socomec HES L ESS w/ ETB Controller™
2.0 ETB Controller™ kit of parts
Specific to the Socomec HES L BESS this EMS will be integrated with, installers will receive the following parts directly from Energy Toolbase Software, Inc., some of which only apply to certain projects as defined by ETB operations.
Note:
Installers may need to supply shielded communications cabling, DIN Rail, and some mounting bolts or screws.
2.1 Verifying the EMS connection
The ETB site controller is installed within the ETB Control Center, both of which will be installed by the client. EMS network connections to Socomec's infrastructure will be validated during manufacturer commissioning, but proper wiring can also be validated by the installer.
Socomec has provided an Automation box that has ten RJ-45 ports. The "Ext. Control eth1" port will connect via CAT5/6 to the FL switch inside the ETB Control Center. The ETB Karbon PC, installed in the ETB Control Center, has three RJ-45 ports, labeled LAN 1, LAN 2, and LAN 3. LAN 1 will connect with either the LTE Modem or the site provided hardline internet. LAN 2 on the carbon will connect to the FL switch inside the control center. (please refer to ETB Controller_Socomec HES L Wiring Diagram & Schematic_07.15.2025 for more detail).
2.2 Mounting External Metering
Socomec HES L comes with the DIRIS Digiware metering pre-installed within the HES L C-cab to measure the output of the ESS. ETB Controller™ also requires measurements of the PV (if applicable) and Main Utility entrance. To measure these points, additional Digiware metering components must be installed, which will be supplied by ETB and will be specific to the project.
It is the responsibility of the installer to provide an enclosure to mount these additional components inside of(Diris Digibox B30 comes with an enclosure as shown above). Each component comes with DIN Rail brackets, DIN Rail itself must be provided by the installer. Any power supplies needed must be provided by the installer. Each meter component provided will connect via ethernet or RS-485 (please refer to ETB Controller_Socomec HES L Wiring Diagram & Schematic_07.15.2025 - EMS_4 for more detail).
2.3 Auxiliary Power Supply
Socomec HES L requires a 208V(Clockwise rotation) feed to the BESS to power the Auxiliary loads for the PCS and Battery cabinet operation. Installer is responsible for providing a transformer if 208V is not available onsite. Please reference Section 8.4 of the SUNSYS HES L US Installation & Operation Manual for further details.
2.4 Internet Connection
The HES L is pre-wired internally and ready to accept a hardline internet connection via the ETB EMS. Hardline internet will land on LAN 1 of the EMS, this will provide the Socomec HES L with internet via it's connection to the switch from the "Ext. Control eth 1" port in the automation box section. (please refer to ETB Controller_Socomec HES L Wiring Diagram & Schematic_09272024 - EMS_3 for more detail).
It is the responsibility of the customer to provide a reliable high speed internet connection. If the installer intends to connect the ESS to the internet via the local network onsite, the installer must coordinate with the site networking admin to ensure proper ports are open through the firewall (if applicable. See "ETB Controller™ Installation Instructions: Section 4 - Site Internet Configuration" for more details on the requirements of the local connection.
If no local internet connection is available, the installer or site owner must provide a cellular connection. Please reach out to your ETB Account Manager for information and a quote for LTE service as needed.
