Operating Modes
Description
Users with proper permissions may assign these modes to manual operating schedules as well as overrides, both at the site level and the special program level. Commands utilizing these modes can be set to start immediately or at a scheduled time in the future, and scheduled to stop at a defined time. Along with selecting a mode, users can toggle a variety of options that affect how the system operates while in these modes.
Note that for all metrics, the values entered reflects the values of the system while Acumen is executing this mode, not what the values were at the time the command is issued. For example, if a Charge at Percent of Max Power of 50% command is scheduled now to occur tomorrow at 1:00 PM, the 50% of max power will be dynamically calculated when Acumen executes this command, not statically set at the time the command is scheduled.
Charge Modes and Options
Charge Modes
Charge at Specific Rate
Description
Charge at a user-defined kW value. If the number entered is higher than the system's capabilities, the system will charge at max power.
Options
Max SOC, Do Not Increase Demand, Maximum Site Demand
Full Charge over Window
Description
Full charge over a user-defined time window at an equal power rate calculated by Acumen. For example, if a site has a 100kWh usable capacity, and at 2:00 PM the system has a usable SOC of 20% (20kWh), and the user selects to fully charge by 10:00 PM, the system will charge at a constant rate of 10kW over the next 8 hours. If the maximum SOC is not achievable in the given time window, the system will charge at full power.
Options
Max SOC, Do Not Increase Demand, Maximum Site Demand
De-Rate Inverter
Description
De-Rate Inverter to a user-defined percentage of the nameplate rating. For example, if a site has an inverter with a nameplate rating of 100kW, and a user selects to de-rate the inverter to 20% of the nameplate rating from 2:00PM to 4:00PM, the system will behave as if the inverter is rated at 20kW from 2:00PM to 4:00PM, at which point the system will revert to its standard ratings and behavior.
Options
Percent of Nameplate to Derate Inverter To
Charge Options
Max SOC
The maximum usable SOC the system will reach while operating in this mode.
Do Not Increase Demand
If this option is selected, the operating mode will attempt to achieve its goals to its full capabilities, however, it will not increase the site's demand threshold. If there is no demand threshold set for the site, it will not increase the site's max demand for the current billing period.
Maximum Site Demand (Import Limit)
If this field is entered, the operating mode will attempt to achieve its goals to its full capabilities, however, the ESS will attempt to not cross over the limit set. For example, if a user tells the ESS to charge at 100kW, with the Maximum Site Demand limit set to 195kW, and the site demand is 100kW, the ESS will charge at 95kW instead of 100kW. This value must be greater than 0.
Percent of Nameplate to Derate Inverter To
Description
The percent of the site's inverter nameplate rating to de-rate the inverter to.
Discharge Modes and Options
Discharge Modes
Discharge at Specific Rate
Description
Discharge at a user-defined kW value. If the number entered is higher than the system's capabilities, the system will discharge at max power.
Options
Min SOC, Minimum Site Demand
Full Discharge over Window
Description
Full discharge over a user-defined time window at an equal power rate calculated by Acumen. For example, if a site has a 100kWh usable capacity, and at 2:00 PM the system has a usable SOC of 90% (90kWh), and the user selects to fully discharge by 11:00 PM, the system will discharge at a constant rate of 10kW over the next 9 hours. If the minimum SOC is not achievable in the given time window, the system will discharge at full power.
Options
Min SOC, Minimum Site Demand
Dispatch as Much as Possible from Battery
Description
The system settings will be configured so that there is as much discharged energy as possible from the battery. This command will remove any de-rate settings on the inverter for the duration of the override.
Options
Min SOC
Discharge Options
Min SOC
The minimum usable SOC the system will reach while operating in this mode.
Minimum Site Demand (Export Limit)
If this field is entered, the operating mode will attempt to achieve its goals to its full capabilities, however, the ESS will attempt to not crossover the limit set. For example, if a user tells the ESS to discharge at 100kW, with the Minimum Site Demand limit is set to 5kW, but the site demand is only 90kW, the ESS will discharge at 85kW instead of 100kW. This value can also be negative. For example, if a user tells the ESS to discharge at 100kW, with the Minimum Site Demand limit is set to -5kW, but the site demand is only 90kW, the ESS will discharge at 95kW instead of 100kW.
Other Modes
Do Not Dispatch from Battery
Description
Prevents discharging from the battery. This command will remove any de-rate settings on the inverter for the duration of the override.
