Network Troubleshooting: Non-ETB LTE Modem
Summary:
Temporary loss of internet will not prevent the EMS from continuing to control the battery, but we cannot guarantee how long the EMS and battery can continue to operate during an internet outage.
Parasitic losses during extended communications outages may result in permanent ESS damage.
The following instructions are for sites where network is provided to the ETB Controller (EMS) via LTE Modem that is not managed by ETB.
Troubleshooting Steps:
-
Verify power is on and avialable at the Energy Storage unit.
-
Validate the internet connection by plugging the ethernet cable from the switch or wireless bridge into a laptop and attempt to reach an external webpage.
- If internet is not available:
Confirm the modem shows good cellular signal.- If it does not, the issue may be the location of the modem or with the local cell tower. Contact your internet service provider (ISP) to confirm service is available at the modem.
- If it does, the modem may need to be restarted by unplugging it from power for 30 seconds then plugging it back in.
*If internet connectivity is still unavailable, contact your internet service provider (ISP) to confirm service is available at the modem and the correct EMS network configuration has has been established (See section 4.3 Network Configuration on our ETB Controller™ Installation Instructions: Section 4 - Site Internet Configuration document.) *
- If internet is available:
- Reboot the EMS by unplugging the power cable for 30 seconds then plugging it back in.
*The refresh time in Monitor generally occurs in 15-minute intervals but it may be necessary to wait 30 minutes to ensure the system comes up fully and has started reporting to monitor before leaving the site. * - If power cycling the EMS does not correct the issue, notify ETB support with a detailed description of the issue and all troubleshooting steps performed.
- Reboot the EMS by unplugging the power cable for 30 seconds then plugging it back in.
